Capturing Customers’ Attention With Paint Merchandising

At Stoney’s Home Hardware in Port Dover, Ontario, owner Becky Cable turned to creative merchandising to promote BeautiTone’s 2021 Color of the Year, Dancing in the Rain. Employee Heather Allan puts together most of the wall and window displays in the store, and she helped come up with the concept to promote the Color of the Year.

Cable, who owns the store with her husband Greg, says each year they paint a small wall in front of the paint department with each year’s Color of the Year. For the Dancing in the Rain color, they added vanities they had on hand because they thought the color would work well in a bathroom. They also added a colorful umbrella and paint cans that looked like they were pouring streams of paint.

“It all came together at the right time,” Cable says. “The display was located right at our front door so as customers came in, they saw the display right away and had nice comments to say about it all. I find people, including myself, like to see what colors or items look like in real settings before they buy.”
