Bringing warmth to walls, Amber has been named York Wallcoverings’ Color of the Year 2023. The hue embodies a sense of comfort and positive energy along with an ever-growing love for infusing our homes with inspiration from nature.
“An organic gemstone made from tree resin, Amber is often associated with absorbing negative energy and releasing bright, soothing energy,” says Carol Miller, trend and color expert for York Wallcoverings. “When Amber catches the light, it emanates a sense of renewal, energy and power.”
The versatile color can be both daring and grounding, depending on its use.
“As a hero color, it is rich like luscious honey; when paired with bolder colors, it quickly becomes a warm neutral,” Miller says. “It’s found across design aesthetics–think traditional style with Old Master paintings or contemporary style with oxidized metals.”
Along with Amber, the wallcovering manufacturer released a 2023 Color Trends Palette called Elements. Each color in the diverse mix takes a cue from the planet, like the reddish pink of the ocean’s coral banks and the dark-yet-soft black of carbon.
